Fiona’s Blog

I Joined VIP 15 years ago, l started as a volunteer after taking redundancy. l loved spending time with our members so much that I went on to become a home visitor within the south of Warrington, over the years l have met and helped so many people with some becoming my close friends.

In April of 2022, I was proud to be given the opportunity to run the charity as CEO. During my first few months l spent time getting to know our members in the centre and to find out what they would like from the charity, we have then gone on to start introducing new menus and getting our VIP’s to try foods from all over the world, some they like and some they don’t! This year we have celebrated the Queens Jubilee, and had visits from ponies and the ice cream van, we have hosted activities each week including bingo, quizzes and play your cards right, as well as crafts. We have arranged a tinsel and turkey holiday in Blackpool with a trip to the tower ballroom for afternoon tea, our VIP’s are very excited about this trip as it is the first holiday we have arrange since the pandemic.

Looking to the future, we want to get in touch with younger VIP within our community and arrange a meet up to see if there is something we can offer for them such as days out, cookery classes or even just shopping trips or to the cinema. Our community is very important to me, and l feel we need to try and capture and support as many individual Visually Impaired People as possible.
